About the Event

Join us in the Studio for our weekly Family Herbalism class and learn different ways for making your own natural medicine and remedies. This class is great for families and we encourage families to learn this art of herbalism/homesteading together!

Think you can’t bake artisan sourdough at home? Think again! You totally can!

In this Family Herbalism/Homesteading Workshop, we will be teaching you how to keep your sourdough starter active and thriving and ways to use the starter for baking all kinds of delicious baked  goodies.

Sourdough is known for its characteristic tangy flavor, chewy texture and crisp, crackly crust.

In a nutshell, sourdough is slow-fermented bread.

It’s unique because it does not require commercial yeast in order to rise.

Instead, it’s made with a live fermented culture, a sourdough starter, which acts as a natural leavening agent.

Simply put: a sourdough starter is a live culture made from flour and water.

Your starter must be kept alive with regular feedings of flour and water to maintain its strength for maximum rising power.  In this workshop, we will keep it simple yet efficient, by demonstrating the process and techniques to keeping your sourdough starter flourishing and long lasting to use in your baking. We will be going over the methods to feeding your starter and how to preserve it - what an active starter looks like - when to use your starter for baking- and all the ways you can bake with sourdough.

This class is great for all ages, even the little ones - we are firm believers in getting children in the kitchen while they are young, as they enjoy it as much as we do! Anyone can do this workshop and learn how to bake with sourdough.

You will receive a dehydrated sourdough culture from our personal batch (which is nearly 5 years old, her name is Gracie). Our starter has been cared for and tended to with so much love, and we have a deep reverence for all the delicious baked goods we have indulged in from "Gracie".

Price of workshop: ($35) per family

Includes a free dehydrated sourdough culture for you to bring home and begin baking.
